Head Athletic Trainer
Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Athletic Trainer to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the health, wellness, and safety of our players, providing elite level care during games, practices, and throughout the season.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first line emergency responder for player safety during game and practice injuries, including head/spine trauma, airway compromise, hemorrhagic emergencies, and cardiac issues.
  • Coordinate daily player health and wellness within a multi-disciplinary team including the medical director, medical consultants, sports performance, physical therapists, coaching staff, and management.
  • Stay current and compliant on all medical standards, including submitting required documents to the PWHL within deadlines.
  • Lead a team of assistant athletic trainers focused on providing elite care for the health, wellness, and safety of players.
  • Handle player injuries, evaluate athletes' conditions during practices and games, and proactively mitigate injury risks by implementing training protocols and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification - Athletic Training (NATA-BOC) or the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA).
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time experience (within the past 5 years) in elite hockey, defined as a Head or Assistant Athletic Trainer/Therapist at the professional, major junior, or college/university level.
  • Maintain the educational and licensure requirements to practice Athletic Training in the state or province located.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Ability to create and communicate emergency action plans.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively evaluate and treat each athlete.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently, effectively, and calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage priorities and coordinate tasks to solve day-to-day challenges.
  • Ability to work long hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work within a team structure and collaborate.
