Athletic Trainer
Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Athletic Trainer to join our team. This role involves providing comprehensive care for athletes, including injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, and a thorough understanding of sports medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough initial assessments of athletes' injuries or illnesses to provide emergency or continued care and determine if they need referral to physicians.
  • Provide care for athletic injuries using appropriate athletic training equipment and techniques.
  • Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation restrictions or clearances as necessary.
  • Apply protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces.
  • Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to parents, coaches, and physicians.
  • Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment and work with coaches to select protective gear.
  • Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs.
  • Develop training programs or routines to improve athletic performance, rehabilitate injuries, or prevent future injuries.
  • Travel with athletic teams to be available at all sporting events.
  • Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, and medical personnel on the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
  • Inspect playing fields for items that could injure players.
  • Conduct research or provide instruction on athletic training or sports medicine topics.
  • Recommend special diets to improve athletes' health, maintain proper hydration, increase stamina, or alter weight.
  • Perform massages to relieve soreness, strains, or bruises.
  • Support team operations by running errands, maintaining equipment, and stocking supplies.
  • Lead stretching exercises for team members prior to games or practices.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and families as needed.
  • Perform general administrative tasks, keep records, write reports, and maintain accurate medical records.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Manage financial resources and account for expenditures.
  • Manage material resources, ensuring appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials.
  • Motivate, develop, and direct team members, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Manage time effectively, both personally and for the team.
  • Develop strong multidisciplinary medical teams with doctors, surgeons, dentists, and paramedics.
  • Facilitate player appointments, fill prescriptions, and accompany players to the hospital if needed.
  • Provide medical coverage for all games, practices, and training sessions.
  • Enforce all concussion and return-to-play protocols as set out by the league.
  • Enforce COVID protocols if in effect.
  • Coordinate with the team equipment manager to ensure proper set-up of gameday supplies and maintain cleanliness of dressing rooms, gym, treatment areas, and offices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (M.A./M.S.) or equivalent preferred.
  • NATA BOC certified Athletic Trainer.
  • 2+ years of sports turf maintenance or relevant experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.

Specialized Training:

  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for completion of an organized program of study.
  • Experience with facial shields, orthopedic splint systems, pedal exercisers for rehabilitation, and therapeutic heating or cooling pads.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:

  • Knowledge of medicine and dentistry for diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and deformities.
  • Understanding of therapy and counseling principles for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
  • Knowledge of psychology, human behavior, and performance.
  • Familiarity with education and training principles for curriculum and training design.
  • Knowledge of biology, business management principles, and strategic planning.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to disease or infections.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
