Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Regulatory Affairs and Recreation, the Assistant AD for Compliance will educate, monitor, and report on all activities related to NCAA, Ivy League, and Dartmouth College rules and regulations governing varsity intercollegiate athletics. The compliance office is dedicated to being personable, professional, and problem solvers, serving all constituents of our athletics department, including coaches, student-athletes, staff, families, and supporters. With 35 varsity sports and 1000 student-athletes, the compliance staff works collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, sharing all responsibilities with an emphasis on cultivating and maintaining positive working relationships with all constituents.
Required Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of experience working with NCAA compliance.
- Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Experience with online NCAA applications such as LSDBi and RSRO.
- Working knowledge of database management systems and various software tools, including Microsoft Office.
- Foundational knowledge of NCAA bylaws 10-17.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Comprehensive reading and analytical thinking skills.
- Familiarity with researching rules interpretations and communicating the legislation’s proper application.
- Ability to thoroughly investigate and collect information necessary for decisive decision-making.
- Highly organized and attentive to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet various deadlines while managing multiple tasks and assignments.
- Capable of cultivating and maintaining positive working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience in a Division I athletics program.
Key Accountabilities:
Administrative (15%)
- Supervises the Compliance Coordinator and cultivates interns/externs.
- Represents and attends various professional development meetings and seminars on behalf of Dartmouth Athletics Compliance or DCARD.
Compliance Education (25%)
- Develops, manages, and executes the 12-month comprehensive education program for DCARD, including student-athlete meetings, coach meetings, new coach orientation, etc.
- Provides interpretive guidance, analysis, and direction on compliance with NCAA and Ivy League regulations.
- Leads new staff and coach compliance onboarding and education of all compliance-related software systems.
Compliance Monitoring (55%)
- Oversees and executes Annual NCAA Recruiting Education for Coaches and Staff.
- Works in cooperation with the Associate AD for Admissions and sport programs to permissibly publicize the commitment of prospective student-athletes.
- Maintains, disseminates, and monitors annual NCAA and Ivy League compliance paperwork for all varsity student-athletes.
- Monitors and verifies initial, transfer, and continuing eligibility certification.
- Serves as a lead staff member for all eligibility waivers and violations.
- Executes the annual submission of institution NCAA APP/APR information and prepares necessary Ivy League annual reports.
- Manages roster certification for tryouts, walk-ons, and male practice players, ensuring accuracy before competition.
Event Management (5%)
- Serves as on-site event manager for varsity home contests, including many during non-traditional business hours.
- Coordinates with event workers to ensure responsibilities are clear and duties are performed properly.
- Handles emergencies on-site and assists with crowd control as needed.
- Participates in the coordination and implementation of athletic tournaments and post-season championships.
