Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) who is a board-certified health care professional specializing in preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries and athletic-related illnesses resulting from physical activity. The ATC will work as part of a comprehensive health care team under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches, and parents. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain all LSSC Athletic Health Records, including insurance forms, injury status reports, accident reports, treatment schedules, and insurance claims.
- Maintain and revise the LSSC Athletic Training Manual, including policies and procedures, injury treatment protocols, and procedures for student trainers.
- Supervise all LSSC home athletic events and practices, coordinating with visiting teams, athletic trainers, or other personnel regarding LSSC policies and procedures.
- Maintain the Athletic Training Room, supervise student athletic trainers, athletes, and equipment, and manage inventory and necessary supplies.
- Coordinate and assist with all LSSC head coaches concerning athletic injuries, and establish conditioning and rehabilitation programs appropriate for each sport.
- Instruct LSSC athletes on the safe use of weights and training equipment, and assist with nutrition and conditioning.
- Assist with weight room inventory, supplies, and maintenance in coordination with the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
- Assist with physical assessments regarding weight lifting and physical training, and customize weight lifting programs for each team (year-round) in coordination with the Strength and Conditioning Coach and each head coach.
- Attend/supervise early AM and afternoon workouts when time permits.
- Recruit LSSC students interested in athletic training and assist with advising them for a career in athletic training.
- Provide educational content regarding healthy nutrition practices for student-athletes, working closely with the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
- Provide weight management practices as needed for student-athletes, working closely with the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
- Secure team physicians and maintain necessary communication, including referrals, medical exams, and pre-physicals.
- Coordinate appointments, ensure all requirements and necessary paperwork are met, and drive student-athletes to appointments when time permits.
- Conduct and supervise the LSSC Drug Testing program, securing local health care providers for drug testing and rehabilitation programs.
- Facilitate care post-drug testing protocol.
- Perform orientation programs for LSSC coaching staff and student-athletes concerning physical examinations, insurance coverage, drug and alcohol abuse, drug testing, accident reports, general health, injury treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Maintain all necessary certifications and licenses to practice in the state of Florida as a Certified Athletic Trainer.
- Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of risk management and injury prevention.
- Evaluation and assessment of injury and athletic-related illness.
- Acute care of injury.
- Therapeutic exercise/rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries.
- Understanding of general medical conditions and disabilities.
- Awareness of health and wellness issues.
- Recommendation of appropriate OTC medication use.
- Nutritional aspects of injury and illness.
- Psychosocial intervention and referral.
Minimum Qualifications & Education:
- Master’s Degree in Exercise Science or Sports Medicine from an accredited institution required.
- Two years' experience in athletic training required; experience in post-secondary education or hospital/clinical setting preferred.
- Certified in Bloodborne Pathogen Training and experienced in concussion management required.
- Experience in teaching Athletic Training and Emergency First Aid coursework preferred.
