Assistant Football Coach
Description

 Recruitment of student-athletes who are athletically, academically, and spiritually compatible with the ACU mission. B. Organization and administration of aspects related to managing a Division I football program, including but not limited to program administration, budget, NCAA compliance, academics, etc. C. Provide student-athletes with holistic opportunities for athletic, academic, professional, and spiritual development. D. Assist in fundraising and alumni relations. E. Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and the Vice President of Athletics.

Essential Duties:

  1. Recruitment of Student-Athletes:
  1. Recruit student-athletes with the athletic ability to compete at the NCAA DI FCS level. Evaluate prospects’ fundamental skills and athletic talent.
  2. Personally interview each prospective student-athlete to evaluate character, personal motivation, work ethic, etc. Prospects must have morals compatible with ACU’s mission. Interview coaches, family members, and friends of prospective student-athletes.
  3. Evaluate the academic success of prospective student-athletes by reviewing grades and national test scores.
  1. Organization and Administration:
  1. Be a good steward of financial resources and assist with remaining on budget.
  2. Evaluate potential candidates for assistant coach and staff positions who align with the university’s mission and vision.
  3. Maintain understanding and compliance with NCAA, WAC, and university rules, regulations, and policies.
  4. Assist with scheduling and troubleshooting academic and degree progress issues.
  1. Holistic Development of Student-Athletes:
  1. Develop a comprehensive plan to ensure student-athletes compete at the highest Division I FCS level, including strength and conditioning, position-specific instruction, game planning, etc.
  2. Monitor academic progress to ensure eligibility, APR, and graduation standards are met.
  3. Encourage open communication between student-athletes and coaches. Provide opportunities for spiritual growth through devotionals, mentoring programs, and the application of biblical principles in competition.
  1. Fundraising and Alumni Relations:
  1. Identify individuals interested in football or have a relationship with the coach and a willingness to provide funds for the program.
  2. Establish and maintain relationships with key donors through regular updates and information about the program.
  3. Promote ACU Athletics and the football program via media relations, including broadcasting coaches' shows, interviews, and public relations opportunities.
  1. Other Duties:
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Vice President of Athletics.

  1. Skills:
  1. Extensive knowledge of the game of football and the ability to teach and motivate student-athletes to perform at the highest level with integrity and ethics.
  2. Effective communication skills with a diverse group of people.
  3. Organizational skills to handle details of events, budgets, trips, meetings, etc.
  4. Proper time management to meet deadlines.
  1. Training Required:
  1. Attend sport-related clinics, coaching clinics, and workshops.
  2. View film on football fundamentals and practice organization.
  3. Study materials on improving communication skills, motivational skills, and coaching techniques.
  4. Attend promotional and administrator seminars.

Qualifications:

  1. Professional:
  1. Bachelor's degree (Master’s preferred).
  2. Football skills, motivational skills, and communication skills.
  3. Ethics and integrity to work within NCAA and WAC rules.
  1. Personal:
  1. Morals, ethics, and loyalty to the University and ACU mission.
  2. Be a positive role model in daily life and actions.

Physical Demands:

  1. Demonstrate physical skills of football fundamentals. B. Be in good cardiovascular condition to endure long hours of the workday and outdoor elements during practice and competition. C. Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
