Description

The Assistant Coach will support the Head Coach in leading a successful NCAA Division II Softball program. The role involves various duties related to the softball program as assigned by the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach should uphold Regis University's values and ensure excellence through athletic success, academic achievement, service learning, and leadership development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching:

  • Assist in planning and administering games, practices, and conditioning.
  • Deliver the program content and organization as set by the Head Coach.
  • Assume the Head Coach's responsibilities if needed.

Recruiting:

  • Actively recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Adhere to University, NCAA, and RMAC regulations.

Administrative:

  • Monitor student-athletes' academic performance.
  • Work with faculty to support student-athletes' academic success.
  • Assist in budgeting and requisitioning for the program.
  • Maintain athletic facilities and equipment.
  • Supervise work-study support staff.

Fundraising & Promotion:

  • Participate in fundraising activities and events.
  • Enhance the image of the Athletics Department and Regis University.
  • Assist in organizing service projects for the team.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in professional development and stay current with trends and developments.
  • Attend relevant RMAC and NCAA meetings as required.

Compliance:

  • Comply with NCAA, RMAC, and Regis Athletic Department regulations.
  • Ensure assistants and volunteers comply with these regulations.
  • Report any potential violations to the Deputy Director of Administration and Compliance.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a college softball coach.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach softball-specific skills.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and function for up to 4 hours and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to perform various physical activities including bending, stooping, twisting, standing, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

Decision Making:

  • Assist the Head Coach in making tactical and personnel decisions.
  • Make independent decisions in the absence of the Head Coach.

Scope of Authority:

  • Assist the Head Coach in all program-related decisions.
  • Make independent decisions in the Head Coach's absence.

Communication:

  • Factual, interpretative, motivational, and confidential communication.

Working Conditions:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Weekend and/or evening work required.
  • Local, regional, and/or national travel required.
  • Flexible availability essential to meet practice, game, and travel schedules.
