Description
Qualifications:
- Valid WV teaching certification or WVDE teaching permit or substitute permit.
- High school diploma or GED.
- WVSSAC certification.
Performance Responsibilities:
Professional and Interpersonal Relations:
- Cooperates with the building principal and athletic director.
- Develops rapport with coaching staff within the school.
- Organizes and leads the coaching staff.
- Develops positive relationships with participants, student body, faculty, parents, community, officials, news media, and opponents.
- Demonstrates appropriate conduct during practices and games.
- Attends league, conference, and WVSSAC meetings.
- Participates in activities that foster growth and development.
- Motivates staff and players towards desired goals.
- Commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior, and language.
Coaching and Related Areas:
- Develops high-caliber and quality instruction.
- Teaches fundamental skills.
- Handles athletic injuries effectively.
- Cares for equipment.
- Supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately.
- Designs quality practice sessions and pre-season planning.
- Supervises managers and other support personnel.
- Manages budget and follows purchasing procedures.
- Initiates game organizational skills.
- Follows league, conference, and WVSSAC policies.
- Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
- Follows end-of-season procedures.
- Completes WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and takes KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions.

Non-Teaching Applicants must:
- Complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program. Estimated Cost: $250.00.
- Apply for position(s) annually.
- Submit to the following upon initial assignment:
- Criminal Background Check. Estimated Cost: $47.25.
- Substance Screening Test.
- Physical Examination.
- Be eligible and apply for certification as a Coach through the WV Department of Education. Estimated Cost: $35.00.
- Keep certification valid and current. Estimated Annual Cost: $35.00.
- Attend Kanawha County Schools' Orientation.
