Description
Lawrence University invites applications for the position of Head Softball Coach. The Head Coach will be responsible for the successful development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the softball program.
Lawrence University is a proud member of the NCAA Division III, Midwest Conference, Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, and Midwest Fencing Conference. We currently field teams in 24 intercollegiate sports, supporting approximately 365 scholar-athletes and are committed to maintaining a well-balanced program that promotes excellence in both athletics and academics.
Responsibilities
- Recruiting & Retention: Recruit and retain student-athletes who align with the University's mission, fostering a positive culture within the softball team.
- Compliance: Abide by all rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Midwest Conference, and Lawrence University.
- Program Management: Plan, communicate, and execute all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III softball program, including practice sessions.
- Academic Support: Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, assist in developing graduation plans, and ensure academic accountability throughout the academic year.
- Scheduling: Collaborate with the Director of Athletics on scheduling and maintain records of meet contracts.
- Budget Management: Prepare and monitor a zero-based operational budget for the softball program.
- Eligibility & Compliance: Work closely with the Compliance Director on all eligibility and compliance matters.
- Equipment Management: Order and manage equipment and uniforms according to University policies.
- Professional Development: Enhance professional growth by attending clinics, workshops, and other relevant events.
- Public Relations: Work with the Sports Information Director on team publicity, pictures, and statistics reporting.
- Health & Safety: Coordinate with the Head Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine representatives as needed.
- Team Travel: Manage all team travel logistics, including reservations for vehicles, hotels, and meal services.
- Community Engagement: Collaborate with alumni, student groups, University administration, and community organizations to garner support for the team.
- Field Management: Work with campus facilities services to maintain the softball field.
- Game Day Management: Assist with game day management duties as assigned.
- Additional Duties: Undertake any other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience: 3-5 years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Recruiting: Established recruiting base.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
