Head Softball Coach
Description

Lawrence University is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Softball Coach. This full-time, 12-month position requires a leader dedicated to fostering excellence both on and off the field. The Head Softball Coach will oversee all aspects of the softball program, including its development, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, aligning with the mission and values of Lawrence University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment & Retention: Recruit and retain student-athletes who are committed to the university’s mission and contribute positively to the team culture.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all NCAA Division III, Midwest Conference, and Lawrence University rules and regulations.
  • Program Management: Plan, communicate, and execute all elements of a competitive NCAA Division III softball program.
  • Practice Management: Organize and conduct effective practice sessions aimed at player development and team success.
  • Academic Support: Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, assisting with graduation planning and ensuring academic accountability.
  • Scheduling: Collaborate with the Director of Athletics on game scheduling and manage the corresponding contracts.
  • Budget Management: Prepare and monitor the operational budget for the softball program, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Compliance Collaboration: Work closely with the Compliance Director to maintain eligibility and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the ordering, inventory, and distribution of equipment and uniforms in accordance with university policies.
  • Professional Development: Enhance professional growth by attending relevant clinics and workshops.
  • Public Relations: Coordinate with the Sports Information Director for team publicity, statistics, and media relations.
  • Health & Safety: Collaborate with the Head Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine staff to ensure the well-being of student-athletes.
  • Team Travel: Manage all aspects of team travel, including transportation, accommodation, and meals, ensuring timely communication with athletics administration.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with alumni, student groups, and community organizations to build support for the team.
  • Field Management: Work with campus facilities services to maintain the softball field.
  • Game Day Support: Assist with the management of game day operations for assigned sports.
  • Additional Duties: Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in coaching softball at the collegiate or high school level, preferably within an NCAA environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
  • Familiarity with NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various university departments and external stakeholders.
