Assistant Coach, Sports Performance
Description

Kennesaw State University seeks an experienced and dedicated Assistant Coach, Sports Performance to develop, monitor, and instruct student-athletes in various conditioning programs for designated sports. This role involves assisting leaders and/or coaches in the day-to-day operations of the Sport Performance facility and providing assigned student-athletes with well-rounded programs that adhere to current standards and research. The Assistant Coach will ensure compliance with all governing rules and regulations and contribute to the administrative tasks assigned.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, oversee, and maintain scientifically-based strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams and/or cohort of student-athletes.
  • Perform appropriate testing to determine the needs of each assigned student-athlete, aiding in program development and individual goal setting.
  • Employ sound coaching techniques and practices to enhance athlete performance.
  • Supervise the weight room facility, maintain equipment, and ensure a safe and functional training environment.
  • Manage the scheduling and maintenance of the weight room and associated facilities.
  • Report and document injuries incurred during training to the appropriate staff and leadership.
  • Develop and maintain an internship program in collaboration with Kennesaw State University’s internship coordinators and the Exercise Science department.
  • Direct and oversee assigned sport performance coach interns in daily operations.
  • Assist with functional rehabilitation as assigned.
  • Maintain detailed student-athlete program records and report progress to coaches.
  • Assist with daily administrative tasks as required.
  • Follow appropriate procedures for opening and closing the facility.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Certification for Strength and Conditioning personnel (CSCS and/or SCCC).
  • Current and valid CPR/AED certification.

Required Experience:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in strength conditioning, performance training, and/or coaching in a post-secondary level program, professional athlete, professional tour participant, or professional coach in a related sport program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Educational Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in exercise science, kinesiology, athletic training, or a related field.

Abilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with student-athletes, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and the public.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the intercollegiate program.
  • Handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously, meeting assigned deadlines.

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, conference, State of Georgia, and university policies, rules, and regulations.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office suite and related athletics software programs).
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and proficiency in phone and email communication.
