Sports Performance Coach
Description

This position specifically supports the Department and University’s mission by collaborating with the Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Performance, Health, and Wellness. The Sports Performance Coach will enhance the speed, strength, and conditioning of student-athletes through sport-specific, scientifically-based training programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Devote full attention and energy to the duties as the Sports Performance Coach for assigned athletic team(s).
  • Comply with the rules, regulations, and policies of the University, NCAA, and any relevant conferences, ensuring that all staff and student-athletes do the same.
  • Assist the head coach in fostering a positive student-athlete experience and healthy team culture, promoting high retention.
  • Cultivate a culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion while recruiting and retaining student-athletes with diverse backgrounds and skillsets.
  • Strive to achieve success in competition for the assigned athletic team(s).
  • Meet annual performance objectives set by the Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Experience.
  • Undergo annual performance evaluations based on duties and responsibilities.

Additional Department Expectations:

  • Ensure proper safety procedures are followed by all student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers and physicians to implement wellness and conditioning programs.
  • Support the head coach's training goals and directives.
  • Handle administrative functions and paperwork related to overseeing the assigned athletic program(s).
  • Advise and assist in facility management and maintenance in collaboration with the Assistant AD for Facilities.
  • Attend conventions, conferences, and clinics in line with Department and University policies.
  • Serve on Department and University committees as assigned.
  • Represent the University in speaking engagements, instructional clinics, development efforts, and community relation programs.
  • Monitor student-athletes’ adherence to rules concerning conduct, appearance, and punctuality.

Other Functions:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one year of strength and conditioning coaching experience.
  • Ability to work weekends and nights.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of physiological principles and strength and conditioning philosophies.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach strength and conditioning principles.
  • Certification or progress towards certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, USA Weightlifting, or International Sport Sciences Association.
  • Moderate to high physical activity; includes extended periods of standing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of strength and conditioning coaching experience at the intercollegiate level.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • High physical activity; includes extended periods of standing, balancing, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, and lifting.
  • Requires travel to other campuses.

Additional Details:

  • Typically a one-year position with the possibility of reappointment.

Work Schedule:

  • Varied schedule based on position demands, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary Information:

  • Salary commensurate with experience.
