Sports Performance Coach, Olympic Sports
Description
Duke University is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated Sports Performance Coach for Olympic Sports within our Athletics Department. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams, focusing on performance enhancement, injury prevention, and overall athletic development in alignment with the mission and values of Duke University Athletics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned Olympic Sports teams.
- Work closely with head coaches, athletic trainers, and sports medicine staff to integrate comprehensive performance programs that address strength, power, speed, flexibility, and injury prevention.
- Instruct student-athletes on proper strength training techniques, speed development, and injury prevention exercises.
- Conduct performance testing, monitor progress, and adjust programs as necessary to optimize performance and reduce injury risk.
- Promote a safe, positive, and productive training environment that fosters respect, discipline, and teamwork.
- Assist in scheduling and managing weight room usage and ensuring proper equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, ACC, and institutional rules related to strength and conditioning.
- Attend practices, games, and travel with teams as necessary.
- Collaborate with academic staff to ensure student-athletes balance their training with academic responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or a related field.
- Certification through a recognized governing body (e.g., NSCA-CSCS, USAW, or SCCC).
- At least 2 years of experience in strength and conditioning, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Strong understanding of Olympic lifts, speed mechanics, and conditioning principles.
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of student-athletes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment, including evenings, weekends, and travel as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience working with multiple Olympic sports.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Strong understanding of sports nutrition and recovery strategies.
