Columbia Public Schools is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Head Coach for the Boys Basketball program at West Middle School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for basketball, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive team culture.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain and lead the Boys Basketball program.
- Foster positive communication with parents, athletes, and potential athletes.
- Assist with coordinating off-season camps and conditioning programs.
- Encourage good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport.
- Collaborate with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athlete development.
- Ensure compliance with MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) regulations.
- Maintain accurate player statistics.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public Schools.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- 60 hours of college credit.
- Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate.
- Completion of a Sport First Aid Course.
- Successful completion of the MSHSAA approved coaches education program (NFICEP) and Concussion in Sports Course.
- Yearly review of current concussion information.
- MSHSAA Sport-Specific Online Rules Review each season.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Missouri Teaching Certificate.
- Prior teaching and/or coaching experience.

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Language: Ability to read and interpret professional materials, complete forms, write reports, and communicate effectively.
- Computation: Proficiency in basic mathematical operations and concepts.
- Reasoning: Problem-solving and ability to follow written, oral, and diagrammed instructions.
- Other Abilities: Ability to identify student needs, adapt instruction, and build effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
- Technology: Proficiency in basic computer functions, district software, and instructional technology.
- Physical Demands: Ability to communicate in a busy environment, move around classrooms, gymnasiums, and playing fields, and read materials.
- Attendance: Regular attendance, including frequent evening and weekend work, is required.
