The University of Southern Mississippi seeks a qualified and enthusiastic individual to join our Athletics Department as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for our Softball program. The successful candidate will assist in providing comprehensive health care and athletic training services for student-athletes participating in the softball program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for softball student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation plans.
  • Maintain medical records for student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Administer pre-practice and pre-competition taping, bracing, and other preventive measures.
  • Travel with the softball team to competitions, providing on-site medical care and injury evaluation as needed.
  • Assist in implementing and overseeing the daily medical treatment and rehabilitation programs in the athletic training facility.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory and upkeep of the athletic training room supplies and equipment.
  • Educate student-athletes on injury prevention strategies, proper nutrition, and overall health and wellness.
  • Ensure adherence to all NCAA, Conference, and university regulations and policies.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in the state of Mississippi.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a collegiate athletic setting, preferably with softball or other team sports.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by team schedules.
  • Physical ability to assist with lifting and moving injured athletes.
  • Frequent travel required with the softball team for away games and competitions.
