Job Tasks Descriptions:
- Assist with supervising practice sessions to develop sport skills and sportsmanship among student athletes. Ensure student safety before, during, and after all school-sanctioned events, making sure athletes are properly equipped.
- Attend and assist in monitoring all practices and games.
- Communicate expectations to athletes, including practice schedules, games, academic performance, respect, commitment, and sportsmanship.
- Assist with the inventory, security, and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Follow all Laramie County School District #1 guidelines and policies.
- Support practice schedules, equipment maintenance, locker room supervision, camps, and extra practices. Report discipline issues, safety concerns, and injuries to the head coach, including emergencies requiring medical services.
- Demonstrate fairness and consistency in decisions and judgments related to participants.
- Attend mandatory meetings, required trainings, and clinics to stay updated on sport requirements and trends.
- Adhere to district procedures for building use and field access, including making reservations and caring for district facilities.
- Attend work and arrive on time consistently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous coaching experience in basketball preferred.
- Expertise in the fundamental skills, rules, and schemes of basketball.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATIONS:
- Wyoming Professional Standard of Teaching Board (PTSB) coaching endorsement, permit, or transitional permit required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:
- Strong scheduling, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and demonstrate sportsmanship with athletes, officials, parents, and community members.
- Comprehensive knowledge of basketball.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of the job.
- Commitment to regular and punctual attendance.
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building/department procedures.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Recognition of the importance of safety in the workplace and ability to follow safety rules.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of basketball equipment to ensure proper use, maintenance, and safety for student-athletes.
- Proficiency in operating personal computers and other relevant equipment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS & DIRECTION/GUIDANCE:
- Reports to: Junior High School Administrator
- Direct reports: Assistant Coaches and volunteer coaches
- Responsible for assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training of assistant coaches, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Responsible for supervising the behavior and well-being of students.
