Description

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Track and Field Coach. This role supports the Head Coach in all aspects of the track and field program, including on-track/field coaching, training planning, team travel and meal organization, athlete and leadership development, scouting and strategy, strength and conditioning, and recruitment. This part-time, temporary position offers a seasonal salary of $6,000, typically covering the work year from October through May.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in teaching the sport of track and field.
  • Support the head coach during training, competitions, and practices.
  • Plan and prepare for competitions and training, including organizing and implementing daily practices for indoor and outdoor seasons.
  • Prepare film breakdown and analysis; present film analysis to team members.
  • Organize team travel and meals.
  • Contribute to strength and conditioning programs, including one-on-one work with student-athletes.
  • Encourage, support, and provide leadership development to student-athletes.
  • Assist with recruiting and retaining talented athletes; build relationships with prospective student-athletes and their families through email, phone, and meetings.
  • Understand NCAA and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) rules, compliance, and bylaws.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes.
  • Serve as an effective role model for college-age students.
  • Assist with all other day-to-day operations of the Track and Field program.
  • Participate in strategy development.
  • Provide ongoing and effective communication to the head coach.
  • Collaborate effectively with athletic colleagues.
  • Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend and participate in department training about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with track and field skills related to distance events, sprints, hurdles, or jump events.
  • Valid driver's license (in good standing based on UMS standards).
  • Availability for practices and weekend competitive schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Collegiate competitive experience/coaching.
  • Sports recruiting experience.
