• Designs pre-season planning.
• Supervises managers and other support personnel.

• Follows league, conference, and WVSSAC policies.
• Devotes time and energy to coaching duties.
• Follows end-of-season procedures.
• Completes WVSSAC Training & Certification Program and takes KCS Staff Development Training on Concussions.

• Non-Teaching Applicants must:
  • Complete WVSSAC Training and Certification Program Estimated Cost: $250.00.
  • Apply for position(s) annually.
  • Submit to (upon initial assignment):
    • Criminal Background Check Estimated Cost: $47.25.
    • Substance Screening Test.
    • Physical Examination.
  • Be eligible and apply for certification as Coach through the WV Department of Education Estimated Cost: $35.00.
  • Keep certification valid and current Estimated Annual Cost: $35.00.
  • Attend Kanawha County Schools' Orientation.

Requirements for Certified Teachers:

• New teachers hired after July 1, 2012, who apply to coach on the secondary level (grades 6-12) must have completed the three-hour training session provided by Kanawha County Schools and complete the Online Concussion Awareness Course through the KCS Staff Development Site.
• The training courses will be taught throughout the year.
• Cost of the course will be $15.00.
• This requirement will allow new teachers hired after July 1, 2012, by Kanawha County Schools to be able to coach on the first day of practice of each specified sport identified.
