The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Men's Basketball Coach in fostering a successful program at Middle Georgia State University. This role involves on-field coaching, player development, and contributing to the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
- Skill Development:
Teach skills necessary for both team and individual player development in collaboration with the Head Coach. - On-Field Coaching:
Assist with on-field coaching during practices and games. - Strength & Conditioning:
Oversee strength and fitness conditioning of individual players and the team. - Recruitment:
Aid in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented student-athletes. - Team Management:
Support operational aspects of team management, including equipment inventory, field preparation, and maintenance. - Relationship Building:
Foster relationships with students, colleagues, staff, alumni, and parents to ensure the success and growth of the program. - Wellness Center Management:
Serve as a manager in the Cochran Wellness Center for specified hours as directed by the Director of Athletics and Wellness. - Additional Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Men's Basketball Coach or Athletic Administration. - Campus Security Authority:
Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act.
Required Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. - Experience:
A minimum of one to three years of experience in coaching or playing at the collegiate or professional level. Equivalent education and experience may substitute.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Proficiency in coaching and training student-athletes.
- Knowledge of athletic program management, sports field maintenance, and Men’s Basketball rules.
- Familiarity with NAIA, SSAC, and NCAA regulations.
- Competence in using computers and job-related software.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
