Assistant Rugby Coach
Description
The Women's Rugby Assistant Coach plays a critical role in enhancing the student experience by supporting the development of team members both on and off the field. The coach will work closely with university administrators, ensuring adherence to academic standards, the Honor Code, and other university policies. This role demands a commitment to the holistic development of students as athletes, scholars, and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure team compliance with university policies related to academic standards and the Honor Code.
- Collaborate with administrators to promote student success both on and off the field.
- Report any injuries or safety concerns to the Athletic Training Manager.
- Ensure that all participants have signed waivers before allowing them to practice or play.
- Attend all practices and home games without exception:
- Fall Practices: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 5:00-6:50 PM
- Winter Practices:
- 1st Term: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - 6:00-7:50 AM
- 2nd Term: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 5:00-6:50 PM
- Travel with the team to all away games.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with coaching staff and athletes.
- Prioritize academics for all team members.
- Support the Head Coach in the development and execution of practice plans.
- Teach and demonstrate rugby skills, strategies, rules, and techniques.
- Lead drills and motivate athletes.
- Prepare for game day by inspecting the field, leading warm-ups, and managing team equipment.
- Exhibit good sportsmanship and uphold the rules of the game.
- Understand and comply with Extramural Sports and USA Rugby eligibility policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach or team Administrator, such as coordinating team travel or managing equipment and uniforms.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- High School diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation Management, Exercise Science & Wellness, Student Affairs, or related field.
- Knowledge of USA Rugby guidelines and regulations.
- Ability to develop leadership opportunities for students through team involvement.
- Commitment to making academic success a priority for team members.
- Strong alignment with the mission of BYU and the principles of the Honor Code.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with university administrators.
- Preferred:
- 1+ years of assistant coaching experience at the high school level or equivalent.
- Experience coaching Women’s Rugby at the university level.
