ASSISTANT STRENGTH COACH
Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and assist with Olympic Sports programs and the day-to-day operation of the performance training facility as required by the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports.
  • Teach proper execution, techniques, and safety for all lifts and movement drills.
  • Prioritize teaching and coaching sessions in the weight room for assigned teams and work with teams on the field or court as schedules permit.
  • Effectively motivate athletes to achieve their maximum potential in all areas of performance.
  • Communicate and work in partnership with athletic trainers, mental health providers, and sports dieticians to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the overall health, wellbeing, and student-athlete experience.
  • Implement and enforce all ICA rules, policies, and procedures regarding the Strength and Conditioning department.
  • Must be flexible to work irregular hours.
  • Effectively work, write, speak, present, and communicate with staff, administrators, and other coaches in the athletic department. Travel with assigned teams may occur as directed by the Director of Strength and Conditioning and may include international travel with assigned teams.
  • Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Conference, the State of Washington, and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field.
  • 2 years of full-time coaching or internship experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 1 year of coaching or internship experience at the NCAA level preferred.
  • CSCS certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or SCCC through the CSCCA is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
