Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaching Duties:
- Assist the head coach in managing and directing the program related to throws events.
- Support the head coach with all aspects of the program, including coaching all throws events, practices, player instruction, throws training programs, meet preparation, competition, and scheduling.
- Coordinate transportation for team activities.
- Assist with recruiting throwers and managing budget responsibilities.
- Educate and mentor student-athletes in all aspects of their holistic development: mind, body, and spirit.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA II rules and regulations and educate student-athletes about these rules.
- Collaborate with athletic department personnel, attend department meetings and activities, and positively represent the University in all interactions.
- Adhere to Walsh University policies and procedures, NCAA II compliance legislation, and conference rules. Non-compliance will result in disciplinary action and/or termination.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and the Vice President for Athletics/Athletic Director.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Understanding and support of the Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University as a Catholic higher education institution, as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience in track & field throws events, with a preference for previous coaching experience.
Skills & Abilities:
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact charitably with students, staff, and faculty. A positive attitude is essential.
- Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak clearly; lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
- Handle and communicate over loud noises, such as whistles, crowd noise, yelling, and screaming.
