The Assistant Coach for Girls Basketball plays a critical role in developing student-athletes' skills, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while fostering a positive and competitive environment. As an assistant, you will work alongside the head coach to prepare athletes for competition and ensure compliance with all school and sport governing body rules and regulations.
REQUIREMENTS
Education Level:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current First Aid Card
- Valid CPR Certification
Experience:
- No previous coaching experience required; however, experience as a player at the collegiate or professional level is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques
- Expertise in fitness, conditioning, and safety techniques for athletes
- Effective communication and relationship-building with athletes, staff, and parents
- Ability to manage, motivate, and develop student-athletes
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Coaching:
- Assist in teaching the fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of basketball
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and cooperation
- Help supervise athletes and team personnel
- Report special needs or concerns to the head coach
- Maintain fairness and consistency in decision-making
Compliance:
- Adhere to Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) regulations, National Federation rules, and district policies
- Ensure all athletes comply with the rules and policies set by Adams County School District 14
Communication:
- Foster positive relationships with athletes, parents, colleagues, and community members
- Communicate regularly with the head coach, athletic director, and team staff
Professional Development:
- Attend clinics and conferences to stay updated on current trends and coaching methods
- Continue growing professionally to better serve student-athletes
EVALUATION
Performance will be evaluated annually by the District Athletic Director.
COMPENSATION
The assistant coach will be compensated per the Supplemental Pay Schedule, based on years of experience, in accordance with Article 11-3 of the Classroom Teachers’ Association Certified Agreement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment:
- Work is performed in various settings, including gyms, athletic fields, weight rooms, and offices
- Evening and weekend hours may be required, as well as travel to campuses and meetings in or out of state
Physical Requirements:
- Walking, running, standing, sitting, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stressful conditions
- Specific vision abilities such as close vision, color vision, and depth perception
