The Athletic Trainer assumes responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting the athletic trainer program based on management direction and physician evaluation. This role includes maintaining injury logs, communicating responses to prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, and participating in clinic and community-based rehabilitation and training. The Athletic Trainer also engages in in-services, continuing education, clinical education, research, and professional paper writing.

Education:

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Athletic Training

Work Experience:

• Required: None

Certifications:

• Required: Current Athletic Trainer License in the state of practice, Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• Preferred: Dual license in Louisiana and Mississippi

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

• Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to present information clearly and professionally
• Capability to tolerate temperatures of 100 degrees or more for up to three hours during outdoor events

Job Duties:

• Prepare age-appropriate prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation under the supervision of the physician/advanced practice clinician
• Provide on-field immediate care for injuries and recommend follow-up with physicians or therapy
• Maintain injury logs per contractual agreements and document as per policy and procedure manual
• Maintain state license and certification
• Assist in day-to-day operations
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and adapting communication styles as necessary
• Perform other related duties as required
