Primary Function

The coach will be responsible for instilling Catholic values while coaching and mentoring student-athletes, helping them develop their skills and reach their full potential. The coach is expected to be an expert in basketball rules, techniques, and strategies, while creating a positive environment that promotes teamwork and sportsmanship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Catholic mission of the school by living and modeling Gospel values.
  • Plan and implement effective basketball practices to achieve athletic goals.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of basketball rules and techniques, and communicate effectively with student-athletes.
  • Promote good sportsmanship, self-direction, and positive self-image among students.
  • Collaborate with school and diocesan administration and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Attend scheduled sporting events, trainings, and meetings punctually.
  • Follow school policies and uphold confidentiality, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Assist in school religious and service activities, helping build a strong faith community.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Coordination, manual dexterity, and visual capabilities required in normal athletic coaching.
  • Ability to lift as needed and engage in physical activities such as walking, sitting, standing, stooping, and reaching.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, organized, team player with strong human relations skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary, with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing needs in a ministerial environment.
  • Must complete a criminal background check.

Education and Experience

  • Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification.
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification.
  • Preferred: Bi-lingual (English/Spanish), Bachelor's degree
