Girls Track Coach
Description
The Girls Track Coach is responsible for providing a safe and effective coaching environment that fosters the athletic and personal development of students. This part-time, temporary position focuses on training athletes, ensuring their safety, and maintaining a positive and educational atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Athlete Safety and Well-being:
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of athletes.
- Teach appropriate skills and techniques within the sport.
- Maintain an effective and safe strength and conditioning program (off-season, pre-season, in-season).
- Recognize and mitigate potential environmental hazards.
- Provide emergency care and first aid in the absence of an athletic trainer or team physician.
- Ensure parents/guardians are notified in case of an injury.
- Pre-season and Season Preparation:
- Conduct pre-season meetings with athletes and parents to discuss the program, emergency procedures, equipment, insurance, and injury reporting.
- Hold pre-season meetings with assistant coaches to establish goals and objectives.
- Organize and plan daily practice schedules.
- Rules and Regulations:
- Understand and follow rules and regulations set by Norfolk School Board, VHSL, Eastern Region Council, Eastern District Council, and assigned school.
- Conduct meetings to explain VHSL requirements, NCAA eligibility, and letter requirements.
- Provide a complete VHSL eligibility list to the school athletic director seven (7) days prior to the first game.
- Team Management:
- Hold team meetings to stress good sportsmanship and explain penalties for bad sportsmanship.
- Provide athletes with written team rules, regulations, and consequences.
- Ensure safety and proper conduct during practice sessions and games.
- Secure all facilities after use.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain and provide inventories, requisitions, and award lists to the school athletic director post-season.
- Cooperate with media, civic organizations, booster clubs, and other groups promoting athletics.
- Direct all interscholastic-related questions, complaints, and comments to the athletic director.
- Maintain a wholesome educational environment.
- Academic Support:
- Counsel students to meet VHSL and NCAA eligibility requirements.
- Conduct supervised study sessions and facilitate tutoring for athletes experiencing academic difficulties.
- Monitor athletes' grades and academic progress.
- Professional Development:
- Attend professional in-service clinics and meetings to improve coaching performance.
- Hold current CPR/First Aid and VHSL Coaches education certificates.
- Communication and Representation:
- Establish communication with team physician, certified athletic trainer, and athletic director.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the sport and coaching responsibilities.
- Promote a positive relationship between the school, parents, and booster clubs by attending meetings, awards banquets, and other activities.
Qualifications:
- Experience in coaching track and field.
- Strong understanding of VHSL and NCAA eligibility requirements.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a positive and educational environment for student-athletes.
- Current certification in CPR/First Aid and VHSL Coaches education certificate.
