Major Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Athletics Director, the Head Baseball Coach will oversee the baseball program and be responsible for the following duties:

  • Recruitment & Advising: Recruit in-state and out-of-state student-athletes. Advise, retain, and counsel current student-athletes to ensure academic and athletic success with the goal of fielding a roster of 32-35 players.
  • Academic Monitoring: Monitor student-athletes' class attendance, study hall participation, and academic performance to ensure compliance with NJCAA and Region III eligibility policies.
  • Community Engagement: Create a community relations plan for players and coaches to complete a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering annually.
  • Fundraising: Develop a fundraising plan to secure at least $20,000 annually to support the program's budget.
  • Practice & Competition Preparation: Plan, supervise, and conduct practices to adequately prepare the team for competition.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Coordinate the collection of physical exams, transcripts, waivers, and other documents for eligibility purposes before the first day of practice.
  • Campus Relations: Build relationships with faculty, staff, and administration to increase the department's visibility on campus.
  • Budget Management: Manage program budgets, college-issued credit cards, and travel requests, ensuring compliance with deadlines set by the college or athletics staff.
  • Program Promotion: Promote the baseball program and athletics department within the college, the local community, and nationally.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and return of all team equipment and gear at the end of the season.
  • Meetings & Functions: Attend relevant coaches' meetings, conference, and regional events, as well as college-wide meetings and functions.
  • Media Relations: Submit nominations for national, regional, and conference awards, and report competition results to local media outlets such as the Post Star.
  • Flexible Schedule: Be willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends as necessary.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision: Manage and supervise assistant coaches, team managers, and student workers.
  • Mentoring: Commit to mentoring and developing program staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following:

  • Coaching Experience: Proven coaching experience at the professional, college, club, or high school level.
  • Recruitment Knowledge: Understanding of the student-athlete recruitment process.
  • Driver’s License: Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Approachable & Team-Oriented: Be personable, approachable, and a strong team player.
  • Academic Support: Show commitment to students’ academic success.
  • Budget Management: Willingness to work within a limited budget.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • NJCAA Rules Knowledge: Familiarity with NJCAA and college policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Higher Education Understanding: Knowledge of and experience in a higher education setting.
