Description
  1. Valid South Dakota teaching certificate/coaching endorsement
  2. Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
  3. Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
  4. Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and a commitment to continuous learning of new theories and procedures pertinent to the field

Reports To: Activities Director, with overall objectives and final evaluations conducted in conjunction with the high school principal.

Supervision: The Head Coach will advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in collaboration with the activities director and respective principals.

Job Goal: To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success. Additionally, to provide instruction that fosters moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Recognize the strong influence of athletic programs on the community's image of the entire district. Maintain a focus on good sportsmanship and mental health, despite community/parent pressure for winning performance.
  2. Manage the extended time commitment, risk of injury, and due process predicaments associated with the position.
  3. Exercise common sense and good judgment in cases not specifically covered by this job description.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Knowledge of existing district, SDHSAA, and Big Sioux Athletic Conference regulations; implement and consistently interpret them for staff.
  2. Understand the proper administrative line of authority and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels. Be aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings requiring attendance.

Staff Responsibilities:

  1. Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff. Design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  2. Train and inform staff, encourage professional growth through athletic clinics.
  3. Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness and evaluate all assistants at the season's end.
  4. Maintain discipline, address grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by the activities director
