Head Coach - Boys Basketball (West Middle School)
Description

Columbia Public Schools is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Head Coach for the Boys Basketball program at West Middle School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for basketball, a commitment to student-athlete development, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive team culture.

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain and lead the Boys Basketball program.
  • Foster positive communication with parents, athletes, and potential athletes.
  • Assist with coordinating off-season camps and conditioning programs.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and enthusiasm for the sport.
  • Collaborate with other coaches to ensure a comprehensive approach to athlete development.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) regulations.
  • Maintain accurate player statistics.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public Schools.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports To: Athletic Director and Principal
  • Supervises: None

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 60 hours of college credit.
  • Missouri Substitute Teaching Certificate.
  • Completion of a Sport First Aid Course.
  • Successful completion of the MSHSAA approved coaches education program (NFICEP) and Concussion in Sports Course.
  • Yearly review of current concussion information.
  • MSHSAA Sport-Specific Online Rules Review each season.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Missouri Teaching Certificate.
  • Prior teaching and/or coaching experience.

The ideal candidate will have a professional demeanor and a demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with diverse individuals.

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Language: Ability to read and interpret professional materials, complete forms, write reports, and communicate effectively.
  • Computation: Proficiency in basic mathematical operations and concepts.
  • Reasoning: Problem-solving and ability to follow written, oral, and diagrammed instructions.
  • Other Abilities: Ability to identify student needs, adapt instruction, and build effective relationships with students, staff, administrators, and parents.
  • Technology: Proficiency in basic computer functions, district software, and instructional technology.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to communicate in a busy environment, move around classrooms, gymnasiums, and playing fields, and read materials.
  • Attendance: Regular attendance, including frequent evening and weekend work, is required.
