North Carolina Central University Athletics is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Coach for its Women’s Softball program. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the development of student-athletes in both academic and athletic pursuits, ensuring that the program reflects the values and standards of the University and the NCAA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, organize, and administer all aspects of the Women’s Softball program, including practice planning, game strategy, and player development.
- Recruit and retain talented student-athletes who can succeed both academically and athletically in a Division I environment.
- Ensure compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
- Prepare and manage the program’s budget, including fiscal oversight and planning.
- Foster a cooperative and inclusive team culture that encourages diversity and inclusion.
- Mentor and guide student-athletes, promoting academic success and graduation.
- Collaborate with university staff and faculty to ensure student-athlete success.
- Represent the university and program at various events, meetings, and functions.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with alumni, boosters, and the community.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of women’s softball, including current trends, techniques, and strategies.
- Expertise in athletic recruitment methods and techniques, particularly for Division I programs.
- Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes, ensuring their athletic and personal development.
- In-depth knowledge of NCAA Division I regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment, retention, and overall experience of student-athletes.
- Ability to foster a cooperative and positive work environment.
- Strong decision-making and administrative skills, with the ability to make procedural judgments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level, with a strong preference for NCAA Division I program experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and the graduation of student-athletes.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Current knowledge of NCAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience leading a successful NCAA Division I women’s softball program.
