Kanawha County School District is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Football Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading our football program and developing our student-athletes both on and off the field. This position requires a dynamic leader who is committed to fostering a positive and competitive environment.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience, preferably at the high school level.
• Strong knowledge of football rules, strategies, and techniques.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities/Duties:

• Plan, organize, and conduct practices and games.
• Develop and implement game strategies.
• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and academic achievement.
• Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and student-athletes.
• Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all student-athletes.
• Monitor academic progress of student-athletes and encourage academic excellence.
• Maintain and inventory all football equipment and uniforms.
• Communicate effectively with parents, school administration, and community stakeholders.
• Promote the football program within the school and the community.
• Ensure compliance with all district, state, and national regulations and policies.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions.
• Ability to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations.

Work Schedule Expectations:

• This position requires flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to meet the needs of the football program.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position includes supervisory responsibilities for assistant coaches and student-athletes.

Travel:

• Occasional travel for games, tournaments, and meetings.
