The Ames High School coaching staff is seeking a Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 2024-25 school year.

Work Schedule: 2-3 hours per day with various days/hours due to training.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Provides a proper warmup and stretching routine prior to all lifting sessions.
  • Ensures a safe working environment for all student-athletes during training sessions.
  • Teaches and models proper foundational technique for all required lifts.
  • Guides entry-level lifters with basic technique and provides advanced technique to more experienced lifters.
  • Uses regular assessments to promote strength and conditioning growth and progress.
  • Monitors student-athlete attendance.
  • Communicates effectively with all students, coaches, and AD during the summer and school year on all information needed to run a successful strength and conditioning program.
  • Acts as a positive and engaged instructor and attends all sessions on time.
  • Maintains the security of the building and fitness center at all times when not in use.
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
  • Abides by strict confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

  • A current Iowa Department of Education coaching authorization or coaching endorsement.
  • Concussion certification.
  • Experience coaching at the high school or middle school level preferred.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Possess knowledge of rules and regulations.
  • Exhibit strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have coaching and/or leadership experience.
  • Possess substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of sports and continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student-athletes through their instructions and actions.
  • Create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all athletes and staff.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

Compensation: $5,935 season stipend.
