In-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of Track and Field, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.

A strong role model for student-athletes, demonstrating positive behaviors and providing constructive instruction.

Reports To: Athletic Director, with overall objectives and evaluations conducted in collaboration with high school principals.

 

Supervises: Coordination and support of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches, in partnership with the Athletic Director and respective principals.

 

Job Goal:

To instruct and develop student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. The coach will also promote the development of character, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride among student-athletes. Continuous professional growth through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations is expected.

 

General Responsibilities:

 

Contribute to the positive image of Union County Public Schools by leading a successful athletic program that emphasizes sportsmanship and mental health.

Manage extended time commitments, potential injury risks, and ensure due process in coaching decisions.

Exercise common sense and good judgment in all coaching activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Program Management:

 

Ensure the implementation of all athletic policies approved by the Union County Public Schools' Board of Education.

Consistently apply and interpret system, state, and league regulations for staff.

Adhere to the proper administrative line of command and attend required public, staff, and departmental meetings.

Staff Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and communicate the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff.
  2. Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth and clinic attendance.
  3. Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate staff performance at the end of the season.
  4. Maintain discipline, address grievances, and foster morale and cooperation among the coaching staff.

 

Administrative Duties:

  1. Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special events.
  2. Prepare for scheduled events or practices, coordinating with maintenance and school employees.
  3. Fulfill state and system requirements for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  4. Safeguard and maintain assigned equipment and facilities.
  5. Advise the Athletic Director on policy, method, or procedural changes.

 

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as a mentor to promote the development of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship in student-athletes.
  2. Monitor student-athletes' grades and conduct.
  3. Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards during practices, games, and travel.
  4. Communicate training rules and regulations to all participants.
  5. Implement programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  6. Complete paperwork on athletic injuries within 24 hours and submit to the athletic office.
  7. Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  8. Enforce discipline and provide due process when necessary, communicating with parents as required.
  9. Assist athletes with college or advanced educational opportunities.

 

Finance and Equipment:

  1. Participate in the budgeting process with the Athletic Director, establishing requirements for the next season.
  2. Manage equipment guidelines, including type, style, color, and technical specifications, within budget appropriations.
  3. Account for all equipment, ensuring its proper use, storage, and reconditioning. Submit an annual inventory and maintain current records.
  4. Control access to equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing personnel as necessary.
  5. Supervise athletes' access to authorized areas of the building.
  6. Inspect locker rooms before and after practices and games, ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of facilities.
  7. Secure all facilities after use if custodians are not on duty.
  8. Instill respect for equipment and school property in each player.

 

Public Relations:

  1. Organize and lead preseason meetings with parents, coaches, players, and guests.
  2. Promote the sport within the school and the community, including recruiting athletes not involved in other sports programs.
  3. Maintain responsibility for the quality and accuracy of information released to local media.
  4. Foster good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
  5. Present information to the media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results.
