Manager, Sporting Operations - MLS NEXT
Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager, Sporting Operations for MLS NEXT to join our team. This role is integral in the implementation and execution of technical standards and initiatives within MLS NEXT, ensuring a high level of performance and compliance across all related activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute technical standards as set forth by the Technical Director, MLS NEXT, and the MLS Technical Team, including roster rules, player movement, game play standards, and rest restrictions.
  • Participate in the MLS NEXT Club evaluation process, incorporating feedback from the MLS Technical Team and the Technical Director.
  • Assist in the implementation of technical initiatives developed in partnership with the Technical Director and the MLS Technical Team.
  • Coordinate and support the Talent ID framework, including biweekly meetings with the internal technical and sporting team, development of prospective player lists, and monthly updates to the scouting list.
  • Manage aiScout integration across all current and future youth platforms, including MLS NEXT and GO.
  • Deliver MLS NEXT season awards selection process.
  • Assist in the MLS NEXT All-Star Game player selection process.
  • Co-manage player selection for ID events.
  • Provide coverage for key talent and evaluation team members, including national federations (USSF, CSA, FMF), college coaches and scouts, MLS NEXT evaluators, and MLS Academy scouting and recruitment staff.
  • Support MLS NEXT Team for the All-Star Game, including player experience in partnership with the MLS Events Team.
  • Build out a player watch list for top talent at all events, in partnership with the MLS Technical Team.
  • Monitor, manage, and implement the process for agent, scout, and college coach attendance at events.
  • Lead support for MLS NEXT Technical team for Talent ID events, optimizing the experience in partnership with other youth soccer organizations.
  • Work with the Commercial Lead on product ordering and partner integration at Talent ID and All-Star events.
  • Oversee and manage communication of ongoing reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in the sports industry.

Required Skills:

  • Deep knowledge and interest in Major League Soccer and player development.
  • High-level commitment to quality work, organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Leadership ability and presence.
  • Ability to travel (20-30%) and work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Experience working within talent development environments.
  • Understanding of global trends in high-performance sport.
  • Proven track record of developing and measuring the success of athletic performance programs.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in a leadership position within an MLS or Elite Academy environment.
  • Business proficiency in Spanish.

Total Rewards:

  • Starting Base Salary: $75,000 – $80,000 (contingent upon individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs).
