Description

Qualifications:

  • Ability to organize and supervise a comprehensive sports program.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in soccer is preferable.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of soccer, with a commitment to staying updated on new theories and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for student-athletes through instruction and actions.

General:

  • The success of athletic programs significantly influences the community's perception of the school system. Public exposure and community/parent pressure for winning performance must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health.
  • The position involves extended hours, risk of injury, and due process challenges.
  • This job description provides guidance, and coaches are expected to exercise common sense and good judgment in areas not explicitly covered. The position is evaluated yearly and may be renewed upon recommendation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Athletic Policies:

  • Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Board of Education and ensure their implementation by the team's staff.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations; consistent implementation and interpretation for staff.
  • Understand the proper administrative line of command and refer all requests or grievances through proper channels. Attend all required public/staff/departmental meetings.

Staff Responsibilities:

  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by assistants. Design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of the overall program.
  • Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth through clinic attendance.
  • Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness at season's end.
  • Maintain discipline, address grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the athletic director/principal.

Administrative Duties:

  • Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
  • Advise the head coach and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.

Student Responsibilities:

  • Mentor each athlete to promote the development and demonstration of character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Monitor student-athletes' grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant at all practices, games, and while traveling.
  • Provide training rules, schedule, calendar, and other regulations to each athlete and their parents.
  • Follow programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.

Finance, Facility, and Equipment:

  • Accountable for all equipment.
  • Properly mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing.
  • Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizing access and equipment requisition.
  • Permit athletes to be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, ensuring cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Instill respect for equipment and school property in each player.

Public Relations:

  • Promote the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not involved in other sports programs.
  • Promote the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or other feasible manners.
  • Maintain good public relations with news media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
