The BMS Assistant Volleyball Coach supports the BMS Head Coach to develop and maintain a high-quality volleyball program that promotes excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach assists each participating student and head coach in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of teamwork, and an increased level of confidence. The assistant coach works closely with the head coach to organize, coordinate, and promote a comprehensive program of sport instruction designed around fundamentals, rules, strategies, and physical training in a safe environment. The coach must be professional, organized, and dedicated. Additionally, the coach is responsible for conducting practice sessions after academic classes and supervising the team at school activities.

- Maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
- Completed and submitted BSD online application.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program – Assist the Head Coach to:
- Maintain an active and effective sports program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development through participation in practices, activities, and competitions.
- Develop a practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
- Assess strengths and decide athletic levels.
- Supervise athletes during practices, activities, and competitions to determine needs for individual and team improvement.
- Participate in special activities including games, pep assemblies, banquets, and award nights.
- Assist in the process of cleaning, repairing, inventorying, storing, and replacing all equipment.
Student Management – Assist the Head Coach to:
- Implement, communicate, manage, and enforce the BMS Athletic Agreement and Sport/Coaches Agreement for every student-athlete.
- Follow established procedures in the event of injury.
- Develop and maintain open lines of communication by conducting parent meetings and holding conferences.
Policy, Reports, and Law – Assist the Head Coach to:
- Implement policies established by federal and state law, CDE regulations, local board policy, and league guidelines.
- Model and utilize nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Budget – Assist the Head Coach to:
- Administer the BMS Athletic budgets and ensure that the program is cost-effective and that funds are managed prudently.
- Follow BMS purchase order procedures.
- Supervise all fundraising to supplement funds for travel, camps, uniforms, and supplies.
Community Relations – Assist the Head Coach to:
- Act as a team representative and promote BMS Athletics by communicating with news media, community groups, and other organizations.
- Use effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- First Aid/CPR Completion.
- Concussion Course Completion.
Skills, Knowledge, and Equipment:
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding athletes, employees, and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with athletes, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion for all athletes, including those on an IEP and/or learning English.
- Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all athletes; ability to personalize instruction for athletes so that all are challenged to learn the fundamentals and develop a love for the game.
