Sports Coach
Description

Under the supervision of the Sports Director/Sports Coordinator, the Sports Coach will be responsible for officiating adult and youth sports programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, T-ball, Dodgeball, Football, and Softball.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Officiate adult/youth sports programs according to the general rules of the sport and specific rules of the Crossroads YMCA.
  • Ensure fair play by stopping the game when necessary to explain violations consistently.
  • Represent and interpret the YMCA philosophy to players and spectators.
  • Report injuries to the Program Director, adhering to safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage varying age groups and control all aspects of the game being officiated.
  • Participate in YMCA program activities, staff meetings, and required training sessions.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and at various branches within the Crossroads YMCA organization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sports Director/Sports Coordinator to address any concerns.
  • Assist the Sports Director/Sports Coordinator as needed.
  • Support YMCA fundraising activities and special events as designated by the Branch Executive Director.
  • Work as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid.
  • Completion of New Employee Orientation and online training prior to starting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively relate to and communicate with diverse groups of people.
  • Minimum age of 18 preferred.
  • Six months or more of related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, and manuals.
  • Passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports.
  • Desire and ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
  • High level of alertness, concentration, and initiative required.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; occasional stooping/bending.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
  • Physical ability to respond to game situations and act swiftly in emergencies.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment.
