Sports Instructor
Description

The YMCA of Greater Providence is seeking a passionate and energetic Sports Instructor to provide high-quality sports instruction in line with YMCA standards. This role requires a commitment to building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all through programs, services, and relationships grounded in the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver enjoyable, high-quality sports instruction in accordance with YMCA program standards.
  • Demonstrate and instruct proper exercises and techniques, ensuring all activities align with program guidelines.
  • Set up and break down equipment as necessary for classes.
  • Clearly outline the goals of the sports program to participants.
  • Ensure coverage in the event of an absence and notify the Program Director of any changes.
  • Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to all participants, embodying the YMCA's mission and values.
  • Act as a member service ambassador, offering personalized direction and information about YMCA programs and services.
  • Maintain the health and safety of all individuals in the sports area, performing first aid and rescue operations as needed. Complete and submit incident reports for any accidents or injuries.
  • Engage with members, making them feel welcome and addressing them by name.
  • Attend staff meetings and events, and actively demonstrate the YMCA’s core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Continually pursue professional development through certification trainings, workshops, and educational courses.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred. College background in youth sports or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience: Previous experience in sports instruction or knowledge in relevant areas is preferred.
  • Certifications/Training:
    • Must be willing to attend training and certifications to enhance program knowledge and quality.
    • Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and Child Abuse Prevention training within the first two months of employment.
    • Ensure all certifications are renewed in accordance with YMCA policies and fitness standards.
