Sports Performance Coach
Description

The Sports Performance Coach is responsible for establishing and maintaining programming for all sports. We aim to operate under the expanded umbrella of sports performance to accommodate the ever-changing demands within the athletic developmental process.

This umbrella shall include but is not limited to:

  • Strength Training
  • Power Development
  • Speed and Agility
  • Energy System Development
  • Injury Reduction
  • Use of Recovery Modalities/Sleep Optimization
  • Liaison to Athletic Training and Director of Athletics
  • Reinforcement of Mental Health Initiatives

The coordinator will work to improve athletic performance, reduce athletic injuries, and teach lifelong fitness skills. This position will design training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervise training sessions, evaluate athletes, maintain athletic records, provide nutritional coaching, and teach sport performance classes as needed. The coordinator will meet regularly with athletic coaches to determine areas on which teams and individual athletes need to improve. The Sports Performance Coach will consult with the athletic training staff, coaches, and athletics administration as needed. The coordinator will be ultimately responsible for maintaining the facilities and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operations of the facilities.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of strength training and fitness equipment.
  • Ability to provide accurate information in a friendly, efficient manner with all types of individuals.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Strong knowledge of all high school sports.
  • Ability to interact with staff, parents, students, and public in a professional and friendly manner.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or similar.
  • Professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency is preferred.
  • Michigan Teaching Certification with related endorsements preferred.
  • 3-5 years in a similar field.
  • CPR certified, AED certified.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement sports performance programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all MHSAA school-sanctioned athletic programs in a manner that reflects research-driven practices.
  • Work in cooperation with the athletic training staff on the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, administration, and Sport Performance staff.
  • Provide nutritional regimens and educational support to athletes.
  • Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach and the team’s athletic trainer at the beginning and conclusion of each sport season.
  • Monitor and document team and player attendance and participation.
  • Communicate and oversee the vision and direction of the sport performance program in coordination with all coaches.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the coaches.
  • Make recommendations for athletic staff professional development.
  • Maintain athletic facilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This position will be based at Monroe High School.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Full-time, year-round position.
  • Salary: $226.52 per day.
  • Seven (7) hours per day; 9:45 am until 6:00 pm with a one-hour lunch.
