Assistant Football Coach
Description

The Assistant Football Coach reports to the Head Football Coach. The primary tasks are to assist the head coach in recruiting and serve as a position coach. This position is defined as a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Identify and recruit quality student-athletes for the football program.
  • Develop and implement organized practices and game strategies for designated position(s).
  • Monitor and track academic progress of student-athletes on the team.
  • Adhere to all NCAA and conference rules and bylaws.
  • Develop a positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as the SU community.
  • Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree with no experience OR three years of coaching/playing experience required.

Experience

  • Previous Football Coaching preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Deep understanding of and passion for the game of Football.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to build strong collaborative relationships.
  • Requires the ability to multi-task and attend to detail.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with current students and parents, prospective students and parents, and staff and faculty in a professional manner.
  • Ability to use technology and equipment specific to the sport.

Additional Requirements

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license, the ability to drive, and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification is preferred.
  • This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.

Physical Demand

  • Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Position requires the ability to move about the campus.
  • Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction; ability to frequently convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Position requires lifting, pulling, pushing: Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires travel.
  • Must possess the physical stamina to effectively coach the sport.
  • Work is indoors and outdoors.
