Description

This position is responsible for all aspects of the Southeastern Community College NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball program including recruiting and supervision of student-athletes, coordinating and supervising practices, facilitating fundraising activities, overseeing travel, managing the budget, and handling the overall daily operations of the women’s basketball program.

Position Details:

  • Employment Type: Full-time (261-day contract)

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will adhere to the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

Essential Duties Summary: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Embrace and promote Southeastern Community College’s mission, vision, values, and goals, and the comprehensive community college philosophy in accordance with Iowa Code regulations.
  • Learn, apply, and model all SCC policies and procedures; support and abide by the strategic goals and expectations of accountability established by the institution, the Student Affairs Division, and the Athletic Department.
  • Engage in continuous process improvement practices that support constructive change and lead to effective improvements in SCC’s Athletic Department processes and services.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, colleagues, faculty, staff, administration, and the general public; contribute to a positive team working environment.
  • Apply ethical standards to work situations; make decisions aligned with SCC’s values and goals; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote a harassment-free environment.
  • Develop and maintain a successful women’s basketball program within the SCC Athletic Department.
  • Coordinate practices, recruitment, strength and conditioning, fundraising, and monitoring of student-athletes (academically and behaviorally).
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and staff as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with academic staff to ensure academic requirements are being met.
  • Supervise SCC student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and throughout their SCC experience.
  • Ensure compliance with all NJCAA and ICCAC rules and bylaws.
  • Serve on college committees as directed, including recruitment and retention committees.
  • Meet any women’s basketball team roster quotas as directed by the athletic director.
  • Coordinate programming with local teams and the community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
  • Collaborate with local individuals, businesses, and organizations to develop and sustain a fundraising and support organization for the Women’s Basketball program.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff.
  • Manage budgets for the areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in marketing and promoting athletic events.
  • Contribute to EADA federal compliance reporting.
  • Coordinate website upgrades and maintenance with the Sports Information Director.
  • Assist with department-wide fundraising initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience coaching women’s basketball, with preference for college-level coaching and playing experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and the community, and to assist the athletic and student services departments
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and creative with leadership, planning, fundraising, and public relations skills
  • Demonstrated success and integrity in managing student-athlete academic endeavors
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and integrity
  • Budget management skills
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications: (Include specific preferred qualifications if needed)

Physical Demands: The Women’s Head Basketball Coach must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural area; travel is required. The individual must be able to work beyond a fixed schedule as work demands. Additionally, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
