Description

The North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Head Coach for the Women’s Softball team. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women’s softball program, ensuring a quality academic and athletic experience for student-athletes. The Head Coach will lead recruitment efforts, develop training programs, manage the team’s budget, and ensure compliance with all University, MEAC, and NCAA Division I regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment: Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to identify, evaluate, and attract top student-athletes. Conduct phone contacts, in-person evaluations, home visits, and campus visits. Maintain accurate recruitment records in compliance with NCAA regulations.
  • Team Preparation: Oversee training, teaching, and conditioning of student-athletes. Plan and supervise practices, develop game strategies, and coach the team during competitions. Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning and Athletic Training staff to ensure a comprehensive program for conditioning and injury prevention.
  • Student-Athlete Development: Foster a positive environment that reflects the missions of both the Athletic Department and NCCU. Prioritize the overall well-being of student-athletes, ensuring a balanced and supportive experience on and off the field.
  • Administration: Manage the program’s budget, ensuring financial responsibility and compliance with University guidelines. Work collaboratively with other departmental staff and university personnel. Adhere to all University, MEAC, and NCAA regulations.
  • Leadership and Compliance: Provide strong leadership to the team, promoting sportsmanship, academic excellence, and adherence to all relevant regulations and guidelines. Pass the NCAA recruiting test within 90 days and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level, with NCAA Division I experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and the graduation of student-athletes.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse community and foster a cooperative work environment.

Licenses or Certifications:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass the NCAA recruiting test within 90 days.
