AREA SCOUTS & PARTNERS Announce Groundbreaking Update to the Area Scouts Athlete Development Software, with a Projected Release Date in Q1, 2025, for Their Innovative “Mental Health For Youth Athletes” Pilot Program
This pioneering initiative will not only provide Area Scouts representatives with critical education on recognizing mental health warning signs in children, but it will also embed a robust mental health care network within the program. Youth athletes will have direct access to mental health professionals, enabling seamless connection to a professional network of clinicians. This groundbreaking program is being spearheaded by one of our newest additions to the Sports Medicine Team—an expert with extensive experience in implementing mental health programs at top 20 colleges and universities across the country.
Positive Impact of Mental Health Therapy
Recent studies have shown that patient responses to mental health therapy have resulted in a 60% reduction in depression symptoms and a 40% reduction in anxiety symptoms, underscoring the critical need for this type of support.
“With the Area Scouts Platform, athletes and parents can literally press a button on their dashboard and receive an immediate response from a therapist, directly through the software,” said the program manager. This direct access is crucial at a time when the pediatric mental health crisis is escalating.
Pediatric Mental Health Crisis
The pediatric mental health crisis continues to grow at an alarming rate. The American Academy of Pediatrics has declared this crisis among children and teens a national emergency. A recent study from the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that mental health-related emergency department visits for children, adolescents, and young adults nearly doubled! Now more than ever, accessible and interventional mental healthcare is critical, and Area Scouts is committed to ensuring that children have the support they need, when they need it.
The “Area Scouts Mental Health For Youth Athletes” program is part of the larger Mindset | Mental Health Initiative. This initiative is being designed and constructed by experts who have successfully launched mental health programs at multiple top 20 colleges and universities in the U.S. The initiative ensures that youth athletes struggling with depression, anxiety, or other early-stage mental health concerns can connect with professionals promptly—eliminating the common, long wait times and the overwhelming process of navigating unfamiliar mental health resources.
A Vision for the Future
“We have always prioritized safeguarding our children's physical health,” said Lance Baldwin, CEO of Area Scouts. “Now, with this opportunity to collaborate with professional mental health doctors and experts from around the world, we can also support their mental well-being, which is truly invaluable.”
The integration of mental health services into the Area Scouts platform marks a significant step forward in addressing the urgent mental health needs of young athletes. Lance Baldwin further added, “By integrating mental health training for our staff and providing services to our athletes, we are continuing to dismantle barriers in the ongoing effort to safeguard our youth.”
“We are honored to collaborate with these doctors and medical professionals from around the world, who share our vision and are eager to help us accomplish this goal.”
